Reflecting back….

Reflecting back on past events it’s sad that I had to go and have an accident to actually find out who in my life I actually meant something to.

The friends of which I never though I mattered in the slightest are actually the ones that miss me the most When you are ill you find out that you mean more to some people than you thought you did and the people that you hoped would be bothered about how you are they are the ones that show no interest.

There is no one special in my life right now, 2013 was a year of learning about myself in areas that I needed improvement, I made some silly mistakes of which I have learnt my lessons from and I look forward to the months ahead especially the ones when I can go out and meet up with new people.

1st to 6th September 2013.

My teenagers were away this week and I had the support of friends to come in and feed me. Lots of home cooked meals have been prepared and bought in plus a lovely Paella cooked in my kitchen.

Fortunately, i work from home promoting Organo Gold and World Ventures and then provide my Social Media Strategy Consultancy. I did intend to go to London on 6/9/13 to meet up with #Sunzu /past #Ecademists but this had to be cancelled. Fortunately, alot of these contacts are on Facebook & Twitter so they are really close at hand for me and networking online has been something i have undertaken for the past twenty years so I am quite competent with it.

Just have to put a few projects on hold and concentrate on finding some new ones where i can just be online to share content and will need to start using online tools i.e Google #Hangouts to have long distance conversations with potential new clients.

28th – 30th August 2013

After anything to do with surgery the hospital gets you up and about as soon as they can and when they are sure you can walk and do a few things for yourself they let you leave. They then carry out assistance at home.  The Physio’s gave me a set of exercises to do to build the muscles in my leg and showed me the correct way to go up and down the stairs.  At home going down stairs is easy, going up I wish there was somebody to carry me.  Really a trial to get upstairs on one leg.

On my ward were five ladies between the ages of probably 70’s to 93 years.   I haven’t had much to do with old people since my Mother past away in 1997. The lady in the next bed who was 93 was quite funny, she had totally lost her bearings of where she was and also didn’t know if it was night or day.

I was so thankful for the electric point behind my bed to keep my IPhone on full charge so i could keep in touch with my notifications on the Social Networks and text to my family and friends.

Food was good, nice to be waited on and since coming home I am blessed to have lots of help and support from my friends and people from church.

26th August 2013

Despite having lots of fun  socializing with my friends on the Bank Holiday Monday i felt sad.  I got a lift to pick up my car from Polegate and then accepted an invite to visit a friend.

I appreciate the friendship we have shared over the past 26 years and how we can chat and joke over our lives and the up’s and downs.  I recalled the empathy i felt for another friend who’s life seemed difficult but I could not help them to change their perspective or encourage them to get out of their comfort zone to make a few changes and set themselves small goals to move ahead.

“A Deer in Headlights” seems to sum up how a lot of people feel and that they don’t see any way out of their circumstances.

When i left to go home my head was in the clouds and typically i was multi-tasking while walking along and slipped up, next thing I knew i was flying though the air, leg slipped beneath me and I landed rather awkwardly, i immediately felt sick and thought I had broken my leg.  Called my friend and she came to help me, called the ambulance and I went to our #Eastbourne A&E.

My friend went home and and my son joined me within four hours I was on the operating table as ex-rays showed i had fractured my hip.

Leadership – Are You Following The Person That Has Your Interests At Heart?

I was influenced and inspired by Amanda Wells – http://www.amandawellsministries.com/category/blog/ who came to our church (Suncoast Church) I have recently read a blog she wrote about understanding the chemistry of the person who was leading your team and was their leadership right for the team?

As I mentioned before my calling with regards to “Servant Leadership” that is about looking after other people.

What does Leadership mean to you?

Have you been on a team with highly competent people?

Have you found that sometimes that person is acting like a self-serving jerk.?

A team I am part of uses a strategy and expects us all to adhere to – based on finances!

Relies heavily on the individual’s finances.  Their ability to self-fund from savings or their main occupation, regardless of whether the business is producing an income that could be used to spend on the training expenses.

Those of us that are living from hand to mouth and don’t have spare capital can’t keep up with the rest!

Should someone pitch you a business opportunity and they are clearly looking for what you want to change in your life – look very carefully at this leader’s philosophy to how and what their expectation of you will be before you commit your finances.

In my business and building my team I will look at individuals skills and abilities and how their can be monetised to work together to help the whole team succeed.

Before I became “The Connector “ I was called “Sunsetwoman” as I was always on the computer and Internet at Sunset when I had got the children into bed, this was my time to build my business.

Actually, now I am out of sync with the time……

….I am going to bed later and getting up later along with the other members of the household.

In November of late I went along to a Women’s Networking evening and met Jo Bremmer who introduced me to the Lyoness International Cashback and Loyalty Club.

With the intention of doing most of my shopping through this card I would be able to create myself a residual income plus commissions of quite a substantial amount.  Most people that I know well are dreadfully cynical and suspicious of doing anything new and when you see the figure of how slow it is to create something they tell me that it is not worth it.  But I just have this feeling that all things big start from things that are small.  After trying for six years to get people along to networking events of which they find tedious and boring as they are introverts and have no people or networking skills I look at actually what does rock their boat and find that it is “Music”

No word of a lie – in fact in the past six months I have connected up with people from a wide range of life of whom I had never met if it hadn’t been for the fact that I started to attend local live music “Gigs” and met some famous people along the way!

As we know we can’t be good at everything with the exception of a few people the Musicians are not that good at IT and Social Media is really complicated to them so I agreed to help someone out and have made lots of new connections and I am find it all every educational.  Seems to be quite a small world between the fans of Led Zepplin for example, if you look on their Facebook friends everyone seems to know everyone…

Then I undertook a session with Stuart Kerslake on Core Process and mine was getting a buzz out of helping creative people which had been my initial intention with my Coaching Course helping Entrepreneurial types get started in business networking.

Going back to Social Media you need to create a type of Momentum around a subject to get others talking and so you need to create a tribe of people supporting and the only way to start that off is to support them,

A type of givers gain, creates energy that draws people in.

Are you Satisfied with an Average Life?

Do I need to lie to make my way in Life?

Exaggeration is also a form of lying and should be avoided at all counts…

Typically, Monday was like any other day though it was a inset day so my son Julian was off school and as he had sat up half the night on his Xbox live at 11am he was still asleep

My daughter Sonia is still trying to get her toe healed after having an Ulcer and spends large amounts in time in bed. She can’t get a job at the moment as she is unable to wear shoes so she has no money and is fed-up.

In some respects the negativity of it all is draining my energy levels; I used to enjoy working from home, now I am seeking ways to escape.

I was due to start a new project working with a London based business who was receiving funding to get his “Mobile phone applications business up and running but it appears he has been scammed and now is having to take the Investment Company and their agent to court.  The agent so it appears has stolen the money and so this London company is not able to do anything at all, least of all pay me to commence all the social media work.

Maybe it is a selfish though to think and say that all the plans I had for this year now won’t happen.  My trip to Amsterdam to see my friend Jet Rotmans and go to see LetzZep with her at the Melkweg Theatre has to be cancelled.  Going along to a Organo Gold Presentation and meeting Gerry Van Zantvoort and Helen Roosing won’t happen either as we are now almost in to March.

For the past six years I have worked with Ecademy as part of their support team and that has gone now as well.  When it changed over to Sunzu they already had a team in place and the old team including yours truly have been left behind.  For the past six years I have lived and breathed Ecademy and business networking and now I am feeling a bit lost.

I’ve had to put my coaching course on hold as well.  I can’t seek myself getting back into that again either.  Most things are standing in a check-mate state.

I just feel in a paralysed state

The Chinese herb Ganoderma kills small-cell lung cancer cells ….

that are resistant to many chemotherapy drugs, and it may prove a life-saving addition to current cancer therapy, according to a new study in Cancer Letters.

Small-cell lung cancer is particularly difficult to treat because the cancer spreads rapidly throughout the body, rather than forming large tumors that can be removed surgically. To treat this cancer, doctors typically turn to chemotherapy, which attacks cancer cells throughout the body.

Chemotherapy can have severe side effects though, because it attacks healthy cells as well as cancerous ones. And over time, lung cancer can become resistant to the effects of chemotherapy, rendering it virtually ineffective. “The chemotherapy would still work, but you’d have to use a dose that would be so toxic that the patient could not tolerate it,” explains lead study author David Sadava, PhD, Pritzker Foundation Professor of Biology at the Keck Science Center in Claremont, California and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, California.

Patients who have been told their cancer is not treatable often turn to alternative therapies, including herbs. The mushroom extract Ganoderma lucidum is one of the most popular of these herbs. It is widely available in health food stores as the Japanese herbal remedy, Reishi and the Chinese herb, Ling Zhi.

Ganoderma lucidum has been studied for its effects on leukemia, as well as on cancers of the breast, bladder, colon, and prostate. For the first time, Dr. Sadava and his team set out to investigate its effects on small-cell lung cancer. They also decided to look at 20 of the more than 250 other Ganoderma species in existence, to see if they too might have a benefit.

The researchers took extracts of these herbs and tested them on three different types of cells: drug-sensitive small-cell lung cancer, drug-resistant small-cell lung cancer, and normal lung cells. They discovered that Ganoderma lucidum, as well as eight other Ganoderma species killed lung cancer cells. Cancer cells responded to the herb much in the same way as they would react to chemotherapy drugs. Yet unlike chemotherapy drugs, which can also be toxic to healthy cells, herbal extracts were more deadly to cancer cells than to normal cells, indicating that they have some ability to specifically target cancer.

Treating the cancer cells with Ganoderma extract before administering chemotherapy drugs made the cancer more sensitive to treatment, which could potentially lower the effective dose of chemotherapy enough for patients to tolerate it, Dr. Sadava says.

Ganoderma won’t replace current therapies for small-cell lung cancer, but it can work in conjunction with chemotherapy to increase its effectiveness. Dr. Sadava believes that new treatments to combat lung cancer will be available in the near future, but in the meantime, “You have to do something as a transition measure to help these patients who are dying,” he says. “This herb, which is widely available and widely used, and has no side effects that we know of, should be considered for people who have drug-resistant lung cancer, along with chemotherapy.”
