Be teachable to be reachable… I was inspired to write this blog today after reading this message from today ‘s UCB’s Word for Today – go and read it and follow @ucbmedia
We are very intelligent yet our preconceived notions can doom us to failure in life.
Assumptions, rigidity, and force of habit can cause us to keep doing things that don’t work and make no sense.
Dr James Dobson says: ‘Until 1992 I wrote books with pencils and yellow pads. I did that for years after word processors were available. The twentieth century was almost over before I decided to join it.’ Imaging how frustrated this man’s Peers would be with him?
How many people do we know that have this fear to abandon an their old belief system making learning new skills or tackling a new project really difficult to grasp in this technology driven age.
Why are you afraid to abandon an old belief system, or learn a new skill, or tackle a new project? When you’re finished learning, you’re finished! The only real limitations are those we place on ourselves by refusing to learn. ‘
In the Bible (Proverbs 9:9 NKJV). Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning’.(Proverbs 18:15 NKJV)‘The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge’ (Proverbs 18:15 NKJV). Don’t let your fears and preconceived ideas keep you from growing; be teachable.

Travelling to Belgrade, Serbia was very much a spur of the moment decision! I decided that if there was somewhere to stay I would go. A friend said her companion was ill and unable to travel so i could take her place.
The reason for the trip was World Ventures, Momentum and despite being a representative for over six years my first training event.
The day started off quite early as i had to travel to Heathrow Airport to meet them. All was well and we arrived safely despite having to change in Munich and sadly our luggage getting left behind. This incident has never happened to me before in all my years of travelling. It was uncomfortable to say the least not to have my toiletries and a change of clothes when I arrived.
I guess staying in such a lovely hotel and the wonderful breakfast made up for the problem of no luggage. Our luggage wasn’t going to arrive until the afternoon so we went off and visited the town in Belgrade and saw some local touristic spots. We had lunch in a small cafe. Belgrade are still allowing smoking in their establishments and finding one that wasn’t packed out with smokers was a bit of a challenge!!
Well Momentum was amazing, I was able to listen and digest quite a few tips on how to prospect and it was exciting to see how other people shared their own personal journey in the business and how the personal development has made a bit impact to their lives.
I made some new friends and committed myself to going to Bootcamp in Rome in May 2016. Seemed like a long time away but now it is just next week!!
Since the Serbia trip I have travelled lighter and just had the cabin bag with just what I need. Lighter to take just need to remember the airline policies with regards to liquids.
I joined this amazing business in 2010. At this time I was working remotely, juggling full time self-employment and networking to find clients to use my business services, plus bringing up two children.
For the beginning of this journey, I was concentrating on building the network as I didn’t have enough money to travel, though I used the membership to get wholesale prices for airfares and hotels when I was networking in Europe.
After completing the D.I.S.C profiling at our church I was encouraged to do a coaching course with the aim to be a Business Coach. I can see now I should have just stayed focused with my business, gone onto their training events and followed their system and been more focused. But, I was resentful at this time! Other people were able to afford to travel, always posting pictures of where they had been and I felt discouraged and left the company.
I joined again in 2015 and went on two lovely vacations, I went to Dublin with my daughter and visited The Guinness Store House Tour and stayed at The Marker Hotel, Stayed at the Cava Spada Luxury Resort and Spa with my son in Chania, Crete. I went to some training too – in Belgrave, Rome and Berlin.
I went completely on my own to Rome and Berlin, travelled alone on the flights, got Uber taxis in the countries to the hotel and met up with other representatives from different teams during my stay.
I got another client for my Online Marketing work and then had to take a job in full time employment. I work in Lewes and it’s a lovely town and actually, I do enjoy this work because I work in a good supportive team and my manager can see my good points and encourages me to be my best and gives me variety with the tasks so I don’t get bored. However retirement is looming.
Life has past by fast and I only have nine years left in the corporate world! This Coronavirus 19 is a bit of a wake up call to focus more on sharing this opportunity with others in the same situation who would be interested in being part of a culture with positive energy and good team spirit working towards seeing everyone achieves.
We are all born into a system, we work hard at school, try to get the grades, get a good job and work hard, hope for pay rises. But we have to cut our coat according to our cloth. The same with where we live, renting is so expensive these days and meeting the criteria to rent has changed. Most good jobs these days are in other locations and time is spent travelling so it is difficult to find a part-time job that fits in with the day job as we just don’t have the time.
I have always had a desire to succeed and achieve my dreams. I’ve pushed my children to work hard and they are both doing well in their chosen occupations.
I enjoy encouraging and helping others to see their potential and succeed to change their lives for the better!!
